Introduction Emmaus Correspondence Ministries Home Office in Dubuque, Iowa, working with Domestic Regional Directors and a growing number of Associate Instructors, distributes and services courses throughout the United States and Canada. The curriculum includes many popular-level, and a few college-level courses that are designed to guide students through the basics of Bible survey, book, and doctrine studies; and to meet special needs through Salvation, Children's and Christian Life Series. Emmaus Correspondence Ministries also offers a growing number of new courses, like God's Blueprint for Your Marriage, which provide biblical perspective and spiritual insight into important contemporary issues. In addition to their primary value as a personal study tool, these courses can be used very successfully as teaching materials for family, youth, neighborhood, and church Bible studies...for Christian schools, and families who have chosen home schooling...and for use among North America's many ethnic groups. The courses also have lasting value as a reference library for individuals, families, or churches.
Prison Ministry "Born to Win...is a mind and heart opener for lost sheep." - Prisoner The prison ministry of the early Church began in a Roman jail in Philippi, but it took public beatings and "a great earthquake" to open those doors to the gospel message. Today, through the cooperation of the Emmaus Home Office and a network of prison coordinators, doors have been opened to more than 1000 institutions, where inmates are being reached and taught through Emmaus correspondence courses. Some have completed as many as 60 units of study, including courses such as Born to Win and Doing Time with Jesus. While it has not kept pace with the explosion of inmate population, the distribution of Emmaus courses has tripled in the last five years, bringing to 1,500,000 the number of courses which have found their way behind bars and into prison cells. This ministry has been used by God to transform lives, not only of prisoners, but often of family members. Many become powerful witnesses to other inmates. To the present 30-unit curriculum Emmaus is adding new courses tailored to the needs of today's prison population.
Overseas Ministry "I have come to know the Lord through this course." - J.F., Sri Lanka The Church's first foreign missionary crisscrossed the then known world, braving the perils of foot travel and the hazards of sea voyages as he preached and taught the Word. Today, through the Emmaus overseas correspondence ministry, the Word of God is finding its way past geopolitical barriers and into some of the world's most troubled areas. From Eastern Europe to the volatile Middle East, Emmaus Correspondence Courses are being used in an effective evangelistic outreach and teaching ministry by both missionaries and national believers. In Poland, for instance, 900 students are enrolled in one or more of nine Polish language courses. Eleven courses, including titles like One God, One Way, Peter and The Church and Guide to Christian Growth, are being offered to Arabic-speaking inhabitants of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. To date some 7000 adults and 4000 children have enrolled in these courses. In Hong Kong, on the brink of troubling changes, two courses have been adapted for radio and are being broadcast into Mainland China. In Latin America 31 courses are being used to reach and teach hundreds of the region's Spanish-speaking people. In impoverished and politically unstable countries in Asia, Africa, and South and Central America - in primitive villages, bustling cities, indigenous churches - missionaries and national believers are using these courses to reach the un-reached and teach the un-taught. Currently, people in more than 85 countries are studying Emmaus courses, available in 106 languages; and 100 or more Regional Directors are participating in this exciting ministry.
Reach...Teach...Each Emmaus courses penetrate barriers. They can be adapted to radio, used for follow-up to visitation. They require in-depth involvement by the individual. There are in fact, few ministries in which Christians can invest with so much confidence that there will be abundant and eternal results.
